According to the Jewish Agency for News (AJN) a group of Israeli researchers at the Weizmann Institute have found a possible answer to autoimmune diseases like Crohn's disease . These research so far only been tested in mice.
In autoimmune diseases such as Crohn's , lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue instead of invading germs. An Israeli team of researchers are seeking to commercialize a revolutionary solution to stop these diseases.
Scientists at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, could "fool" the immune systems of mice to point to an enzyme known as MMP-9. This is a family of proteins essential for our body processes as essential as wound healing. But when it's out of control, MMP-9 facilitates the development of autoimmune diseases as well as the spread of cancer.
