Short Bowel Syndrome

Tránsito intestinal de un paciente con un síndrome de intestino corto The syndrome of (SIC, also called simply intestinal failure) is an anatomical or functional loss of part of the small intestine that causes severe clinical symptoms of metabolic and nutritional alterations due to the reduction of intestinal absorptive surface effectively. In other words is "a situation in which the intestine is unable to sustain life." It is likely that this condition develop when half is removed or bowel during surgery. Risk factors include diseases of the small intestine that may require surgery, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis . The clinic associated with SBS is a function of the length and location of affected small bowel, the presence of underlying disease, the presence or absence of colon and ileocecal valve and the nature of the underlying disease.
