O'Bannon in March 2008

Through ealingwell.com forums I find that on Thursday 17 died at age 63 in Los Angeles (California) screenwriter Dan O'Bannon , author of "Alien" and "Total Recall".

His wife, Diane, told the Los Angeles Times that her husband died in St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California, after a struggle of 30 years against Crohn's disease .

As pointed in the forums is curious and inevitable to think that thirty years ago when O'Bannon was writing the script for 'Alien' was diagnosed he was suffering from and it is reasonable to ask whether can the pain of the EC be the inspiration of a creature that causes abdominal pain unbearable. For the result (Alien) seems to be yes.

In recent times (as his wife), O'Bannon was dedicated to creating a script by examining the past: a reflection on his own experience with hospitals and the management of these with pain during her long battle inflammatory bowel disease, a kind of science fiction or horror story about what can happen when you're homeless because of terrible pain.

He began his career in 1974 with the sci-fi film "Dark Star" ("Dark Star"), who co-wrote with director John Carpenter. O'Bannon continued his studies in science fiction and horror movies especially pointing out the script of 'Alien'. Among the screenplays he wrote include "Invaders from Mars" ("Invaders from Mars"), "Bleeders" ("Hemophilia") and "The Return of the Li through its carrerving Dead" ("The return of the Living Dead "), who also directed.

O'Bannon was born on September 30, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri. Rest in peace.
